GRAVEL MERCHANT

OPERATIONAL FINDINGS
Currently, the operational team carries out the product list input process manually for each merchant. This process is very burdensome for the operational team also the merchant because the list of materials is so large every time a merchant joins and the time gap between operational team inputed to merchant can actively sell their product was so long. Apart from that, this condition also becomes an obstacle when merchants want to increase the number of goods they sell.
OBJECTIVE
CHALLENGE
Our target users are owners of conventional material stores who have a low level of tech savviness and a long learning curve.
CHALLENGE
After conducting research and interviews, most of our users have never experienced selling products online on any e-commerce platform.
CHALLENGE
Gravel Material's product inventory system follows a 'store under product' scheme, not 'product under the store.

PRE-DEVELOPMENT
After 3 month of the feature released we get several impact, insight and learning about this project, which is:

LEARNING & INSIGHT
INSIGHT
It turns out that construction materials are highly diverse. Even though many users have added more than 5 products to their store, there are still many users, even those with 10+ products in their store, who use the 'Chat with Gravel' feature to request the addition of new material types to the Gravel catalog.
What we know and learn about this?
In addition to preparing a design solution focused on user experience, we must also consider the operational process holistically, asking the question, "Is our Gravel catalog comprehensive enough for users to fully utilize?"
After gaining this insight, together with the Engineering team, we conducted a benchmark of competitor catalog lists.
Indirectly, by creating an "escape path" for users to contact us regarding products that are not yet available in the catalog, we are helping to enrich the existing catalogs in Gravel Material.
INSIGHT
How a design solution, backed by strong research and firm fundamental reasoning, can convince stakeholders, even upper management, to provide additional support for its implementation.
What we know and learn about this?
A design solution grounded in clear research has earned us significant support for implementing our design.
Before a solution for adding manpower was found, as a designer, I also made some adjustments to the design in case the worst-case scenario occurred, by providing alternative design options with lower complexity.
Communicate with stakeholders skill was very important as a designer handling project with many stakeholders
This project ended quite well and meaningfully. I learned a lot throughout its course, from understanding how effectively communicating our design solution to stakeholders creates a significant impact on project implementation, to how a designer must think holistically, considering even the business’s operational aspects in their design.
Enhancing the Gravel Merchant App was an enjoyable experience. Collaborating with various stakeholders to create the best user experience helped me grow as a more empathetic designer—not only towards users but also towards stakeholders.
That's all about this project! Thank you for reading up to this point!
I hope you feel inspired by reading this.
Cheers!
